Samples and collections are embedded into specific user communities and organisations. The ability to provide metadata may vary considerably between communities. IGSN e.V. liaises with IGSN user communities worldwide through Communities of Practice to develop and standardise best practices for the identification and description of physical samples on the web and in scholarly publications and guidelines on how the DataCite Metadata Schema can be used to describe material samples.
